Quest of Heart Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week

Douglas,   Mayor James H. Dennis signed the proclamation as Lancelot Holton, Andy Holton, Sherryl Holton, and Renee Holton look on.

Thanks to the tchin.org/aware ( Congential Heart Information Network) for posting information on Congenital Heart

Defect Awareness Week, I saw a post last Wednesday. I want to join in there efforts to get the word out. It was so nice

of Mayor Dennis to declare CHD week in Douglas. Even though it was short notice, he made the time to support our

Quest of Heart.

Noted on the Proclamation:

Every year 40,000 babies are born in the United States with Congenital Heart Defects; and

Some Congenital Heart defects are not diagnoised until months or years after birth; and

Undiagnosed Congenital Heart conditions cause many cases of sudden cardiac death in young

athletes; and despite the statistics, newborns and young athletes are not routinely screened for CHD; and

A disproportionately small amount of funding is available for CHD research and support; and

CHD Awareness Week provides an opportunity for families whose lives have been affected to celebrate life and to remember loved ones lost; to honor dedicated health professionals, and to meet others and know they are not alone; and

The establishment of CHD Awareness Week will also provide the opportunity to share experiences and information with the public and the media, in order to raise public awareness about CHD; now

Read more about CHD in the Wednesday and Saturday edition of the Douglas Enterprise; and
